My Story.
Hi, I'm Agnes Njunge founder of Mama Afrika.
This isn't just the story of a fashion brand-it's the story of finding myself again.
Mama Afrika was born from a moment I never expected.
When I moved to the UK, I was searching for work and, like many people starting over in a new country, I faced disappointment after disappointment. It was a difficult season. I felt uncertain, disconnected, and began to lose a part of myself.
Then one day, I was invited to an African cultural event. We were encouraged to wear traditional African clothing, so I reached for my Ankara outfit, added my brass jewelry, and got ready.
The moment I looked in the mirror, something changed.
For the first time in a long while, I didn't just feel dressed—I felt beautiful. I felt confident. I felt connected to my roots. Every pattern, every color, every piece of jewelry reminded me of where I came from and the strength, beauty, and richness of African culture.
That feeling stayed with me.
I realized that African fashion is more than clothing. It's identity. It's heritage. It's confidence. It's a way of carrying our stories wherever we go, whether we're in Africa or thousands of miles away.
That moment became the beginning of Mama Afrika.
Our mission is simple: to celebrate the beauty of African culture through timeless fashion that helps people feel proud of who they are. Whether you have African roots or simply appreciate the artistry, craftsmanship, and vibrant spirit behind every piece, you are welcome here.
Every garment is chosen with care to honour tradition while embracing modern style, because we believe fashion should make you feel seen, confident, and unapologetically yourself.
Welcome to Mama Afrika.
